363Canadian Copyright Laws "archaic" says Supreme Court
- Jun 30, 2004The Supreme Court of Canada just decided 9-0 that ISPs should not have
to pay SOCAN (the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers
of Canada) a "download tax" on music downloads.
The Canadian Press interpretation of the ruling goes so far as to
comment that as ISPs have been judged mere "intermediaries" they are,
in effect, not bound by "archaic" federal copyright legislation.
