Is Biopoetics One thing Masquerading as Another..?
I was first attracted to this group when it was
set up which would be 18 months ago I guess. The
reason I'm interested in the concept of Biopoetics
is that I believe that one of the salient features
of poetry is its memetic quality, with clear links
to that concept as described by Richard Dawkins in
*The Selfish Gene*.
So the salient question for me would be - what part
do evolutionary principles have to play in poetry and
I stopped using this forum after I bought one of the
main recommended books, called, eponymously, *Biopetics*.
I was disgusted by this no-doubt highly expensive
hardback book that my wife bought for me for Christmas
at my request. It was a complete and utter fraud.
It was about as poetic as the telephone directory -
less so if anything. It was full of horrid, turgid
academic PROSE of the worst order. I simply could
not bring myself to read more than a page or so of
any of its horrendously boring and badly-written
chapters without my eyes glazing.
However - I thought that I'd give this forum a 2nd try.
Has anyone anything at all to say by way of explanation
for why that book should have been such a crock of the
