      activista viequense.

According to the document that accompanies this text, the US navy will add
more contaminants to Vieques environment on Friday, March 2, when it will
detonate more explosives in the ex bombing range here. Despite orders from
the Governor of Puerto Rico, Anibal Acevedo Vilá, to the President of the
Puerto Rico Envrironmental Quality Board to take a position against open
detonation in Vieques until an adequate air monitoring system is in place,
the military continues its attack against the environmental quality of
      Vieques.

For over a year, community representatives have expressed, in numerous
meetings with Puerto Rican and Federal Government officials, their serious
concerns about the lack of proper air monitoring related to the military
detonations. During a meeting with community leaders in Vieques this past
January 26, the Governor ordered the President of the EQB to inform military
officials and the agencies related with Vieques clean up that an air
monitoring system should be in place before detonations continue. This was
the Governor’s only declaration to receive applause during the conversation
      with the Viequenses.

“The Navy has detonated more than 20,000 pounds of explovies in past months,
putting into our air large amounts of military toxics related to the
sicknesses our families suffer”, expressed Nilda Medina, CRDV spokesperson
and 2005 Nobel Peace Prize Nominee (1000 Women for Peace). “We demand the
Governor, the EQB, the Departament of Health and Natural Resources fulfill
their ministerial duties to defender and protect us from this new attack by
the US Navy”, finalized the Vieques activist.
