In "The Canon Debate", Albert C. Sunberg Jr. states on page 88, "Jerome had Hebrew texts of Sirach, Tobit, Judith, (in Aramaic or "Chaldee"), 1 Maccabees and Jubilees presumably from Jews translating them into Latin." Sundberg gives no footnote.

In an article in which there are a number of observable errors and over-simplifications, is this one? This statement seems to contradict everything I've read as to Jerome's rationale for denigrating certain books due to not finding Hebrew exemplars.

Can anyone shed light on this?
