      Thanks Ivan.

Our car, a Subaru Outback, was broken into early Thursday morning in front of our house on Innes at Earl. They smashed the rear hatchback window, we lost nothing but a $500 rear window.

An elderly neighbor had his 1995 Toyota Forerunner parked on Mendell and lost a mag wheel early yesterday AM. They even took the lug nuts. (Luckily I was able to give him spare lug nuts and wheel locks I had, so he could get on the road.)

The reason I say make your presence known is we have interrupted thieves breaking into vehicles before, and they usually run like hell when you make your presence known. However I have yet to read a report of SFPD arresting someone during a vehicle break in, so it is probably not an enforcement priority. So it's helpful to scare the thieves away - but still call 911.

It DOES work, much better than wishful thinking. If your alarm goes off annoyingly, you can easily turn the sensitivity adjustment down (the major deterrent seems to be the blinking light).
