Subject: Up coming community meetings on the remedial plan for Parcel E2, August 8th @ 6:00pmThe India Basin Neighborhood Association and Arc Ecology, working with the approval and funding of the USEPA Technical Assistance Grant program and the cooperation of the Navy, are conducting a completely independent “clean sheet” review of the Navy’s proposed Record of Decision for Parcel E2.We have retained three experts in the field of geology/ landfill engineering; toxicology/ health risk assessment; and radiation/ health physics to evaluate the document and supporting data. These individuals have no prior association with the Shipyard. Arc Ecology has not briefed them on our prior comments or perspective on E2.We will be holding the second public meetings at the Bayview Opera House: on August 8th. As is traditional with an Arc Ecology community meeting, a light dinner will be served. The purpose of these meetings is to engage the Bayview Hunters Point community in this review. The August 8th meeting will focus on reporting back to the community on the findings of the reviewers, sharing with the community how their input helped shape the review, and responding to the individual comments we received. All of the information gathered from the community and the independent review must be compiled and provided to the Navy by August 10 to help inform its internal assessment of the Draft E2 ROD.This is an IBNA and Arc Ecology meeting (funded by a US EPA TA grant).Thank you,Saul BloomExecutive Director/ CEOArc Ecology1331 Evans AvenueSan Francisco, CA 94124v 415.643.1190m 510.290.9488f 415.643.4779
