The last microchipping clinic of 2007 at San Francisco Animal Care and
Control (ACC) will be on Sunday, June 10, 1 to 4 p.m. The clinic
after that will not occur until the second Sunday of February 2008.

Sponsored by the nonprofit Friends of San Francisco Animal Care and
Control (FSFACC), the service is FREE to San Francisco residents and
a nominal $15 per dog or cat for nonresidents. In all cases donations
are welcome for the service. NO APPOINTMENT OR PAPERWORK IS
NECESSARY. Dogs of San Francisco residents must be licensed, and for
those who aren't, licenses will be available at the same time if the
owner has proof of their dog's up-to-date rabies vaccination. All
dogs must be on leash and under close control by their handlers, and
each cat must be in his or her own carrier.

Free microchipping, which can run up to $80 at some veterinary
hospitals, is quite a bargain. Animal caretakers are given a pre-
addressed envelope and form to register the microchip nationally for
only $6.25. Even that service normally runs $17.50 when not done at
      an animal shelter.

For more information on microchipping in San Francisco go to
FSFACC.org, click on "About ACC" and then on "What Is
Microchipping?." Or call FSFACC at (415) 822-5566.

While FSFACC volunteers run the microchipping clinics, ACC staff
sells dog licenses and offers dogs, cats and small animals for
adoption. ACC offers numerous other crucial services to the public
every day of the year (except national holidays), 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
      (7 p.m. on Wednesdays). Go to sfgov.org/acc.
