      If you just want the perl script to run in the background then you
      could start it like this


      terminal "perl testbot.pl &"

      the & (apmersan) at the end tells the shell to send the program to
      the background, freeing up the terminal to run somthing else.
      However, if this terminal closes, then so does your program, and it
      may not close the program "nicely".

      The best method if you wish to do this for more involved programs is
      to have the Perl script run as a daemon.
