population-level effects of sampling?
Does anyone have data that would address the question of whether pan
trapping can have a significant effect on local bee
populations? There have been concerns raised about a proposed
project at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (9,500 feet
altitude in Colorado) and it would be nice to have some data to
address this point. Even data on average catches per trap might be helpful.
Sam Droege has sent me one dataset for sampling with 200 bowls continuously for a month, and the numbers were pretty stable after a drop between first and second samples (but he points out it's difficult to isolate the effect of phenology from sampling).
