Ben- I have my doubts, but one big hurdle will be the tubing itself, which you can practice with before building it or trying it with a bee. Internal and external reflections, clarity (and so thickness) and distortion will need to be minimized with the right tubing (or would something like a square-sided spectrophotometric cuvette work better?).
