      Here as in many of regions of the West, there are two very common Halictus species.  H. tripartitus (which is many areas makes up over 50% of all the species captured)...a small dull green species and H. rubicundus a larger all black species.  It is interesting to see that H. rubicundus has a world wide distribution in the northern hemisphere, which makes one wonder how this species might differ at a molecular level over such a very wide area.
