      ANNOUNCEMENTS

      STITCH OF THE MONTH
The Stitch of the Month will begin again on Saturday, May 10th, 10am-
noon. This on-going class will continue to meet the second Saturday
of each month. Mark your calendars.

If you are serious about learning Bead Weaving, then this is
probably the best approach and curriculum for learning this fine
craft and art. The traditional approach is to teach one technique to
do a particular project. The Stitch of the Month is designed to
teach you the fundamentals underlying the 12 major bead weaving
stitches, so, whatever the project is that you want to do, you learn
how to problem-solve, set goals and objectives and implement
strategically any one or more stitches with the project you'd like
      to create.

Stitch of the Month meets once a month, and is a series of classes
covering the history, technique, pattern graphing/making and
application of twelve bead stitches or bead weaves. The twelve
samples are added into a shadowbox to create a "Sampler" of your
work during the 12 class series. You will gain a basic working
knowledge of the stitches covered and acquire a notebook outlining
the beadwork. Color and texture will be discussed as we travel
through this series so that the completed "Bead Sampler" is a
      pleasing work of art.

You may join the course in any month, and can take as many or as few
of the 12 classes as you like. The Stitch of the Month curriculum is
an especially good way to learn the major bead-weaving stitches. And
because you learn these stitches in a comparative context, they will
have more meaning for you, and you will gain more control and
dexterity in your general beadweaving skills.

Students may join the class at any point in the 12-month cycle.
Each class session has a $25.00 fee ($25.00 deposit reserves
space). Additional costs: shadow box display, beads, beading
needles. If you miss any particular class, you can make it up again
      in the next cycle.

****Please email (warren@...) or phone (615-292-0610)if
you are interested in signing up for the Stitch of the Month. We
need to do some space planning, and see if we need to arrange one or
      two groups. Thanks, Warren.

Orientation to Beads and Jewelry Findings Course
      You need this course if:
      - You don't know what the differences in quality are between
glass beads made in the Czech Republic, in Japan, in China and in
India -- what are you really buying, how long will these beads
last, how well will they work in your particular project?
      - You don't know the differences between 14KT gold plate over brass
(gold-filled), 14KT gold plate over silver (vermeil), and Hamilton
Gold Plate over brass, aluminum, steel, pot metal or copper, and
what will likely happen to the plating over the next 3-6 months, 1-3
      years, and 5 years
      - You don't know what the differences are between "druks" and "fire
      polish" beads
      - You don't know how to tell crystal beads made in Austrian (top of
the line) from those made in the Czech Republic and China (things
often substituted, but of a lower quality)
      - You are unfamiliar with the history of beads, and how the Ogalala
Sioux, the Pope, Zulu tribes, the
      French/Italians/Czech/African/Persian/North American bead
interactions, and the shoe industry in America have influenced how
      you use beads today
      - You don't know the differences between seed beads and delicas,
what the differences are between 12/0 and 11/0 delicas, and that
seed beads come in many shapes, including Magatamas, Mini Fringe
Drops, Twists, Bugles, Cubes, Triangles, Niblettes, to name some
      - You are unfamiliar with appropriate choices for stringing
      materials, jewelry findings and tools

The Orientation course is 1 1/2 hours. Best of all, the
      orientation course is free.
