      Dear Aftad

      My response was meant for Zico, but since I was in a hurry, I didn't

      really go down all the way to start my response. My mistake, and my

      sincere apologies. I sometimes forget that most of the people, even

      though they subscribe to and exchange mails in mailing lists, doesn't

      really know hot to make use of the thread option to follow the

      conversations. My apologies again.

      Hope this time it is in *proper* format.

      Happy Linuxing

            Thank you too.

            Zico Bhai mmv was not found in the bash.

            As far as i can remember, i had to install this mmv in my box.

            http://linux.about.com/cs/linux101/g/mmv.

            But, mmv really works for me. I renamed multiple files with it. I don`t
            know... why it didn`t work for you.

            Yep! full credit goes to bdlug@.... What is your real name, brother?
            :)

            Thanks a lot everybody, again.
            >

            But, it was really a nice problem. And , the answer of bdlug
            @... much much pretty than the problem. I am really
            surprised that, how such
            type of words may be the answer. :)
            Actually, আমি উত্তরটা বুঝি নাই।

            Best,
            Zico

              I hope this will solve your problem....

              1. First I create 1000 files with .nbd.col extension... ( Just for fun of it
              )

              [root@testMachine01 test]# perl -e ' for ( $i=1; $i<1000; $i++){ `touch
              $i.nbd.col` } '

              2. then I rename them all

              [root@testMachine01 test]# ls -1 | perl -e ' while(<>) {chomp;$ll=$_; ($a,
              $nbd, $col) = split (/\./,$ll,3); `mv $ll $a.$nbd`; } '

              Easy to do it in perl....

              Take care,
              Arif

              I enjoy hats. And when one has filthy hair, that is a good accessory.
