Road Trip just gut back from our first shopping
experience/rehearsal/show(s) since International last July.
On our first day back together we spent what had to have been at least
6 hours shopping for our new suits. We finaly agreed on this beautiful
grey pin stripped suit and 4 different colored shirts and ties (Gold,
Purple, Teal, and Pink). To bottom off the new outfit we purchased
some awesome two toned grey aligator skin (prolly just a pattern not
the real thing) shoes. We also got some cool jackets for an afterglow
outfit thrown in as well. They're black with a grey "ghosty" looking
pattern to them. Once we got done getting the major stuff we spent
forever trying to find matching jean...that was ridiculous! But we
finaly found them and we each lived through the experience...but barely!
After that we had our first rehearsal since Denver. We planned to have
9 new songs learned (only 1 ballad...i know, what a surprise).
Unfortunaly 2 didn't make.
So we made it to San Antonio for midwinter with a brand new repetoir
of: Zing Went the Strings of My Heart, Blue Skies, Its Impossible,
Time After Time, Lift Up My Head, In Your Eyes, When my Baby Smiles at
Me, Sittin on Top of the World, Please Kind Sir, and Bachs Fugue in
Dm. Only one thing was missing when we arrived...Sam's voice. But we
struggled through 10 performances in 3 days anyway, because we were
there to sing...not complain!
Thursday we did a 45min. master class for a local high school, which
went great considering it was our first time performing all this new
music, new set, and only having 3 1/2 voices. We closed out that night
at Dick's Last Resort where we ate, got made fun of, took some
sarcasm, and watched Tony jump into the river from the downtown river
walk. That video is on our Myspace site now...too funny!!!
Friday was a big day! We did 2 more of the 45min master classes and
then went to MacArthur high school and did another master class as
well as a song sway with their choir students as well as their
school's barbershop chorus. Friday night our one song cameo/teaser on
the big stage turned into 3 songs since some of the senior quartets
who were slated to sing had to scratch. So we had a lot of fun
following a mariachi band and warming up the crowd for Flipside/Red
Line, State Line Grocery, and Storm Front.
Saturday morning brought a nice 7am wake up call and another
performance for the Presidents Council breakfast. Saturday afternoon
we broke out a couple more songs while the scores were being tallied
for the Youth Chorus Contest, which was amazing! Great job to everyone
who competed. Saturday night we were fortunate enough to sing 15 mins.
on the big stage with some real big talent.... O.C. Times, Max Q, and
the medalist Chorus. And finaly late saturday night we sang again for
the presidents council and the chorditorium with everything we had left.
As you can see we kept very busy and loved every minute of it. We
loved catching up with old friends as well as meeting some new ones.
Quite honestly,we loved catching up with each other!
Joe and Sam look forward to cheering on Tony and Larry in Last Kids
Picked and Round Midnight at the MAD prelims in March as well as
kicking off our first Show season this spring. Please check out our
schedule to see if we're gonna be in your area, and if we're
not...find a place for us to sing:)
We hope your New Year has started off as great as ours, and we look
forward to seeing and hearing from all of you soon.
