Block 1 Game 2 - Arctic Sled Dawgs at Mi. Mercenaries
In a rematch of last year's playoff conference final the Mercenaries
were able to beat the Dawgs this time. Last year the Dawgs swept the
heavily favored Mercenaries 4 straight to advance to the cup finals
against Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh eventually took the cup. The
Mercenaries were aiming to exact some R&R, revenge and retribution,
on the Dawgs. I would say they certainly made a statement. The
Mercs dominated in the faceoff circle. Intimidation without taking
penalties is another area the Mercs had an edge. The Mercs made some
timely intimidation rolls without taking penalties to shutdown the
Dawgs scoring lines. Brodeur's shutout was spoiled by Boyes early in
the 3rd period on a sweet breakaway goal started by a beautiful pass
from Prospal from deep in the zone. Boyes split the defense in the
neutral zone deke twice and scored on the nifty backhand shot that
totally fooled Brodeur. The goal was one of the few highlights for
      the Dawgs.
