Construction on the Knights' new arena in the Sunshine State was
delayed, but the belated home opener thrilled the home crowd.

The Knights came out in the trap against the Hornets top line and
completely shut them down. Then the Knights' 2nd line scored back to
back goals on the 14th and 15th cards. Derek Roy scored on the
powerplay (one of Christian Ehrhoff's 3 trips to the sin bin) on an
inside shot, then off the rush on the faceoff, Roy shot, tried a put
back, then Corey Perry but another rebound shot past a flopping M-A

The Knights returned to their trap and shut the Hornets down the rest
      of the first period.

The 2nd period saw little action until the latter half of the frame
when Marco Sturm scored (from Perry) on the 20th card. Then as Bobby
Holik sat in the penalty box, Alexander Frolov got the Hornets on the
board, (the improbable an unassisted rebound shot).

The Knights buckled down in the 3rd, settled into their trap, and took
15 (mostly outside) shots to the Hornets 7 in the 3rd period. Alex
Steen got an outside shot by Fleury on a screen late in the game to
make the score 4-1 and send the Hornets home frustrated.

The home crowd saw plenty of shots, 37 for the Knights, 30 for the
Hornets. The Knights were 1 for 5 on the PP. The Hornets were 1 for

      3 stars:
      Roberto Luongo, 29 saves.
Alex Steen, 1 goal, stellar defense
      Corey Perry, 1 G , 1A.
