If it's at all possible,
your team by Feb 8th. We will accept day-of-race registration, but an RSVP will streamline the registration, and ensure that we have enough maps and supplies for everyone. The RSVP is non-binding, just send me (Ben Legg) an email with your name, team, club membership status and contact information.
All participants must be in teams of 2-5 people. If you need help finding a team, send me an email! And feel free to utilize the BAOC email list and/or facebook page. There will be special recognition for the best all male team, all female team, mixed team, veteran team (all members over 45), and teams with youth participants. Note however, this is a very physical event, not designed for young children - Vasona Lake is a much better option for them!
Wes Erck has designed a "ROGAINE" style course. We will set out 33 checkpoints, each one is worth
100 points. Your team chooses it's own route, to get as many points as possible within 3 hours. NOTICE: Due to course setting constraints from the park, the course will be very physical. The shortest feasible routes include ~200 meters of climb. There will be two water stops on the course, whether you encounter these will depend on your particular route.
Each team should bring basic trail running / hiking supplies. A whistle, for emergency signaling is mandatory. Long pants or gaiters (to protect against thorns) and shoes with good
traction are highly recommended. Water bottles and a small first-aid
kit are good ideas. Each
team will be provided a map. The course can be completed without any navigational aids, but you may use any tools that you like, including compass, altimeter, and GPS.
Compasses can be rented for $1 each. Scoring will be down with the Sport Ident (SI) system. Each team must carry an SI-Stick. These can be rented for $3. (SI-5 sticks will be sufficient for a teams, but elite teams may wish to use SI-6, for the extra storage capacity.)
