Sacred Harp is part of shape note singing tradition, a form of a capella choral music whose roots in America stretch back into the Colonial period and beyond. Characterized by open harmonies and a distinctive sound, Sacred Harp is music designed primarily for participation, rather than performance. For more information about Sacred Harp and shape note singing, visit Fasola.org.
We meet at various locations in the Baltimore area every Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., with a break at 8:30 for a light potluck supper. We sing mostly from the 1991 revision of 'The Sacred Harp,' although other shape note tunebooks are occasionally used. All are welcome, no experience is required, and loaner tunebooks are available.
