      Dear Colleagues (with apologies for any cross-postings)

      The 18th conference of the International Peace Research Association is
      approaching. It will take place 5-9 August 2000 in Tampere, Finland,
      hosted by the Tampere Peace Research Institute.

      The title of the conference is Challenges for Peace Research in the 21st
      Century. A Dialogue of Civilizations, but its agenda covers all aspects of
      peace research. It features six plenary sessions as well as a wealth of
      commision meetings, panels, workshops, etc. The titles of the plenaries
      are:


      * Dialogue, Not Clash of Civilizations.
      * Challenges to International Law, Organization and World Order
      * The Interface between Peace Research, Peace Education and Activism
      * Gender issues, Peace and Development
      * Positive Experiences of Peacebuilding and Social Transformation
      * Democratization: East European and African Experiences
