GRANTS- British Scholar Travel to East Europe and Former Soviet
Union East Europe and Former Soviet Union

Funds for individual visits, and in connection with collaborative
      projects,
to partner Academies in Central and Eastern Europe and the former
      Soviet
      Union.

Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union:
      Individual Research
      Visits

The British Academy has agreements with thirteen Academies in
      Central and
Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Funding is available
      to cover:
      - research visits by British scholars to the partner country,
      - research visits and attendance at joint seminars,
      - conferences or workshops in connection with joint projects.

Scholars may pursue individual research programmes, or joint
      projects. For
all visits, there should be some attachment, however nominal, to
      an
institute of the relevant Academy. Where no attachment to an
      Academy
institute is possible, applicants should consider whether other
      channels
might be more appropriate, such as the British Academy's
      programme of
      Research Grants.

      The Academy has agreements with:

      Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia
Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Zagreb
Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague
      Estonian Academy of Sciences, Tallinn
      Georgian Academy of Sciences, Tbilisi
      Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Budapest
      Latvian Academy of Sciences, Riga
      Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, Vilnius
      Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw
      Romanian Academy, Bucharest
      Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow
      Slovak Academy of Sciences, Bratislava
Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Ljubljana

Scholars wishing to visit a country which was formerly part of
      the Soviet
Union or of Yugoslavia, but with which the Academy has no formal
      agreement
as listed above, are advised to contact the Academy to discuss the
possibilities available. The Academy has Memoranda of
      Understanding with the
Academy of Sciences of Albania, the Armenian Academy of Sciences
      and the
Macedonian Academy of Sciences and Arts to promote research
      visits and joint
      activities.

Level of award: travel and maintenance expenses.

Period of award: up to three months.

Closing dates: 30 April, 30 September, 31 December. Applicants
      should allow
at least six months from the closing date for applications to the
      proposed
      start of their visit.
