THE YOUTH INVOLVMENT IN THE EUROPEAN HERITAGE PROTECTION

This project intends to promote and support the youth initiatives for
an active involvement in social activities and participation in
decisions making process concerning European heritage protection.
During 6 working days, about 60 students from ISHA will participate
at the Chisinau Seminar They will debate the issues of similitude and
diversity in European Heritage Protection.
THE AIM, OBJECTIVES AND EXPECTED RESULTS
To promote active participation of youth in social life and
development of responsibility for European heritage protection.
· To ensure experience sharing on heritage protection between ISHA
· To develop a program for youth in maintaining material and cultural
European monuments. The main task is to contribute to registering and
preserving monuments, protecting and re-including them in the list of
European heritage values.
· To discuss the existing laws and the need of modifying them
according to the new realities;
· To establish a dialogue between NGOs, the governmental and private
institutions for a larger and more efficient co-operation in future.
The young members of ISHA will be able to understand the importance
of the heritage protection and problems concerning this issue. The
participants will have the opportunity to exchange information about
the existing experience of European Heritage Protection.
The project represents a new form of practical co-operation between
members of young generation from different countries.
Around 60 students, experts and young people from ISHA member
organizations interested in national and European heritage
Action plan (preliminary): April - November 2001

· Month V - VI - work out the draft agenda and insure the necessary
conditions to organise the ISHA Conference
· Month VII (October 1-7) - the development of the ISHA Conference in

Everyone who has an interest in the Chisinau Conference can apply and
make additional copies. All applicants are expected to send signed
forms to ISHA Moldova by regular mail, fax or e-mail (see address at
the end of the application form). Deadline for applications is August
Registration fee for the Chisinau Conference is USD 50. A reduction
of 50% can be insured to participants from the East European
countries. The registration fee is paid upon arrival.
Arriving in Chisinau
If you need to receive a formal invitation to get a visa, please
mention this in the application form. Formal invitation should arrive
prior to July 31st 2001. Earlier invitations will be sent upon your

All European countries need the visa to come in Moldova, excepted
Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Byelorussia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan.
All participants are encouraged to apply for grants from local
organizations and foundations to cover travel or other seminar
expenses (registration fee, visa cost, pocket money, etc.). Please
inform us on your plans by filling the appropriate field in the
application form if you need a recommendation letter.
You can arrive in Chisinau by plane, train or bus. We would recommend
the following connections:
Flights: via Bucharest, Budapest, and Frankfurt am Main to Chisinau
Airport. (The cost of flight ticket in 2 ways from Budapest or
Frankfurt to Chisinau is about 360-400 USD)
Train: via Moscow, Kiev, Minsk, Odessa and Bucharest to Chisinau
Train Station (The price in 2 ways is about 100 USD from Moscow, 60
USD from Minsk and 40 from Kiev).
Bus: from Kiev, Bucharest or Budapest (The price in 2 ways is about
25 USD from Kiev, 20 USD from Bucharest and about 150 USD from

Meals and special diets
The organisers will insure three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and

In addition to the academic part, the conference programme includes
other events, such as sight seeing in Chisinau and the nearby
historical monuments, other and places of interest, evening events
(disco, night clubs, etc.).
Two days will be devoted to trips outside Chisinau. We plan to take
you to the famous historical-natural monument Old Orhei (for more
details, visit our web page http://orhei.dnt.md), Tipova and Saharna
Monastic Complexes and the original medieval church from Causeni.
The workshops and the rest of the day's program will take place at
the University, National History Museum or in the hotel conference

Esthetical, cultural and historical value of European heritage
Inter-cultural connections in the European monumental arts.
Stiles architectural in the context of European civilisations
Historical and cultural monuments included in the world list.
Heritage Protection in theory and practice
New methods and technologies in heritage protection. Current status
of national heritage and the necessity for its protection. New
methods and technologies in the protection of arts, history and
cultural monuments. The experience of other countries in this field.
Education for cultural heritage preservation
The protection of national heritage as part of educational
programmes. National and European strategies in promoting the
heritage protection spirit among young people.
Heritage Protection in legal framework
Levels of legal protection, cultural-historical values: national,
European and international.
The priorities of governmental institutions in the field of heritage
preservation and protection. The role of civic society and of NGOs as
supporters of the heritage protection and human values promotion.
Heritage protection during a military conflict
National, European and international legislations regarding heritage
protection during military conflicts. Legal and moral aspects. (Study
cases: Second World War, Inter-ethnical, Military Conflicts in the
