my name is shumani and I am mom to three kids one year, four years and
nine years old.
We live in Texas and just got back from a road trip to Idaho where we
attended Rabbitstick, a primitive skills gathering. It is really
great. There is also a kid's camp my four and nine year olds
participated in. They had so much fun. We camped on the way up and back.
Tomorrow I leave for Inks Lake here in Lampassas TX and will do some
hiking I hope. I just got a kelty carrier off of craigslist.
I used to do a fair amount of hiking and paddling in my glory days..
but alas three kids later.
But now the kids are older it's a lot easier. A nine year old girl
really does make it manageable she is quite a help.
On this trip we are about to do, our focus is going to be on starting
fire with flint and steel and cooking mostly without pots over an open
Our first night we are planning on ember roasted vegys, venison on
sticks and flat bread cooked on hot ash( a little like ash cakes)
I am getting excited about taking some true multi mile overnight hikes
so am looking forward to being inspired by you all.
