Application - Kahtoola Microspikes - Andrea Murland
October 24, 2013
Please accept my application to test the Kahtoola Microspikes. I have
read the BackpackGearTest.org Bylaws v. 0609, including Chapter
5, and agree to comply with all requirements. My Tester Agreement was mailed on Aug. 31, 2009. As a Canadian
tester I accept any need to pay for shipping.
Name: Andrea Murland
Email: amurland AT shaw DOT ca
Location: Elkford & Kimberley, British Columbia, Canada
Height: 5 ft 2 in (1.57 m)
Weight: 130 lb (57 kg)
I began hiking frequently in 2006 and spend most weekends either day-hiking or
on 2-3 day backpacking trips, with some longer trips when I can manage them.
Elevation is typically 500-3,000 m (1,600-10,000 ft), in the Canadian Rockies
and the Selkirk, Purcell, and Monashee ranges.
I am pretty excited to see this test pop up. My primary use for the spikes would be trail running and hiking in the mountains near home this winter. I run year-round, and try not to run on pavement, but find that the local trails get very packed down and then very slippery. I also like to geocache and hike year-round, and there are some areas nearby that get blown off to the point that snowshoes aren't required, but the ground is frozen and icy. I am usually off-trail in these areas and would like to see how the Microspikes do on mixed dirt & snow/ice terrain. There is already snow on the ground in the mornings quite frequently, so I would be able to use these soon after arrival.
