I developed a love for backpacking while spending the semester abroad in New Zealand. I enjoy playing games and seeing how little I can pack to keep my pack light, however, I always pack a lot of food. My favorite terrain is steep, rugged, alpine terrain with more vertical and less horizontal. Now living in Colorado, I find a lot of this terrain in the heart of the rockies. I also am highly involved in a large number of other outdoor activities like skiing, kayaking, climbing, and biking. Generally, I like to push my comfort zone.
Outdoor Field Information:
For outdoor testing, the majority of the trips will be backpacking and camping trips in the Colorado High Mountains. Sun protection is essential up at such a high altitude. I will probably be on a trip in this area almost every weekend, as I will be living up in the mountains for the summer.
I also have a week long trip planned to visit a friend in Northern Arizona. This sun hat would be great for testing on these desert hiking trips that we have planned (mostly along the Cockscomb Fault). Being desert terrain, there is a lot of sun, and dehydration (which amplifies the effects of the sun) is not uncommon.
Test Specific Questions (aside from the basics):
-I have a very long neck, and one of the sun hats that I had in the past was not quite long enough. The brim seems rather small on this, will it provide sufficient protection?
-They say it has a foam brim so that it floats. How quickly does this dry if it gets wet? Does it float well enough to be easily found after washing through a rapid?
-How well does it hold up in windy weather?
-Redfeather's Conquest Snowshoes LTR due June 1st
-Badger Aromatic Chest Rub LTR due July 22nd
-Terramar Sports Thermolator Bottom LTR awaiting edit
