      Hi everybody,
Check this out, tell your friends too!
Both myself and Making Waves are mostly acappella; the other artists
      primarily voice w/guitar.

House concert venue goes on the road (but leaves the house behind)

The Rose Street House of Music is a San Francisco Bay Area House
Concert venue featuring both local and nationally touring women
singer-songwriters. Featured in the San Francisco Chronicle and the
East Bay Express, Rose Street (as called by regulars) has grown by
word of mouth creating a buzz at the National Folk Alliance and
Rockrgrl conferences and across the country. While providing a great
benefit to local and touring artists who seek listening rooms that
support musicians, Rose Street has also become a musical community
center, featuring workshops and jams for aspiring and working
musicians, as well as it's weekly live concerts. It's all volunteer-
      run, a labor of love.

The April 2001 tour features Irina Rivkin, Rachel Garlin, Francine
Allen, and Jenn August, all rising performers and Rose Street
regulars, taking the magic of Rose Street on the road, performing
both solo & in collaboration. As they travel throughout the
Northwest, they will share their experiences in creating musical
community. (April 5-23, + pre- & post-tour Bay Area concerts).

Performer's bios follow the tour dates, which include 4 bay area kick-
off shows and 3 homecoming shows! (sorry, no junior prom ;o)

PS Also, although this tour is completely booked,
we'd love to connect with anyone who'd like to host a house concert
in the future (another RSOR, with Pamela Means and Making Waves, is
being planned for May 22-June 10, covering Bay Area, So. CA, and
      Northwest!) Thanks!!!

      Here's the not-so-secret code :o)

Okay, here are the (drum roll . . .) performer bios:

Rose Street founder and singer-songwriter Irina Rivkin first began
performing as a child in a family band, singing Russian folk &
American Jazz. She started performing her own songs six years ago,
and has always mixed solo work with collaborations. Her
introspective, gutsy originals journey into the personal & political,
with occasional travels into Russian & Spanish language lyrics. Songs
range from stark, intimate solo acapella to multi-layered
collaborations. "When I hear Irina's music, I feel as
though I am hearing the voice of our ancestors. Deep, inspired, &
passionate, her richly textured arrangements make the songs both
urgent & enduring." (Andrea Pritchett of Rebecca Riots)

RACHEL GARLIN (April 5-13, and pre-tour Bay Area concerts)
Born and raised in Berkeley, CA, internationally touring singer-
songwriter Rachel Garlin is a fresh, striking presence on the
contemporary folk scene. Her music ranges from reflective ballads to
funky groove-tunes to topical songs, all of which draw on her
experiences traveling, teaching, and returning to the people and
places where she grew up. Powerful vocals are supported by
expressive guitar-playing and a warm, whimsical personality. "Tender
melodies and a spare, graceful sense of funk . . . intimate and
accomplished." (Cullen Gerst, East Bay Express)

FRANCINE ALLEN (April 12-23, and post-tour Bay Area concerts)
Formerly of the duo "Francine & Nymiah," performing up and down the
West Coast for 7 years. Her angelic, yet powerful voice expresses
original songs to celebrate earth, life, & freedom. "Great . . .
she can break you heart with one song and have you grinning like
crazy the next. Her music let's you think, lets you feel, and lets
you fly." (Peter Packley, Producer, Mad River Festival)

Opens, weaving you through her life in songs with her confessional
style. She has the ability to take you into dark caverns of her mind
and guide you out with her light-hearted commitment to silliness.
Imagine Dave Mathews meets Ellen Degenerous at a metaphysical

Special Guest performers, "Rose Street Regulars" local to the towns
we tour, may join for select concerts. Making Waves (An original
acapella ensemble organized by Irina Rivkin around her song
supporting the struggle of community radio station KPFA) joins for
several pre- and post-tour Bay Area shows.
