29 June 2000 -- SAN FRANCISCO: The Golden Gate Men's Chorus, under
the direction of Joseph Jennings, continues its 18th season with an
exciting summer choral event, International Concert, on Sunday, July
30, 5pm at Grace Cathedral (1100 California Street @ Taylor). Joining
the GGMC for this concert will be guest choruses from Europe,
MELO'MEN: Le Choeur International Gai de Paris and The London Gay
Men's Chorus. Founded in 1982, the Golden Gate Men's Chorus is a
40-voice ensemble, and is dedicated to giving voice to the gay
community with a repertory that draws on the rich traditions of male
choral singing: mainly classical, with occasional excursions into
      Broadway, pop, and gospel music.

International Concert will be a homecoming celebration for the GGMC,
capping its participation at the week-long GALA Festival 2000 in San
Jose (July 22-29). It also offers the rare opportunity to see and
hear two distinguished European men's choruses, including a wide
variety of repertoire that is sure to please all ages and interests.

Melo'Men, the gay international Paris-based choir, is composed of men
sharing a love for song and proud to show their gay identity. The
choir's first performance took place under he Eiffel Tower in Paris
1994. Since then, they have performed to full houses, including their
production of the Three Continents Concert in 1997 with the gay and
lesbian choruses of Atlanta, London and Sydney. This will be
Melo'Men's second visit to the US, following 1996 appearances in
Atlanta and Tampa. Under the direction of John Dawkins since October
1996, they will present a combination of traditional French pieces,
      well as original commissioned works.

The London Gay Men's Chorus has been singing to entertain and educate
since 1991. The 120-strong choir sings an eclectic repertoire,
in everything from classical to jazz, from show tunes to pop songs,
all in their own inimitable style. The Chorus has sung at the Royal
Festival Hall with Dame Cleo Laine, the Royal Albert Hall, the
of the Millennium Dome before the Queen and a TV audience of
and are the backing singers on a current UK pop charts single. This
trip to the US marks their first overseas performance. Under the
direction of Jeremy Haneman since 1997, the LGMC has seen five-fold
growth in membership, the debut of the first CD, and production of
shows and concerts at major concert halls and theaters across London.
Mr. Haneman is lecturer in music at London Fine Arts College and the
Arts and Events Director for Queercompany.com.

The Golden Gate Men's Chorus is a select group of 40 men,
the ethnic and social diversity of San Francisco, who share a common
love of choral music. The goals of the chorus are to strive for
musical excellence, to provide a productive social fellowship for our
members, and to present the rich tradition of male choral music to
broad and diverse components of the San Francisco Bay Area

The GGMC is a member of the Gay and Lesbian Association of Choruses
(GALA Choruses), an international organization of gay- and
lesbian-identified and supportive choruses which are as diverse as
communities they represent. GALA's membership includes over 8,000
lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and their families and friends from over
150 choruses in North America, Europe, and Australia. The Golden Gate
Men's Chorus presents spring, summer, and winter concerts each year,
in addition to joint appearances with other choruses, benefits, and
      special performances.
