The Cathedral of Christ the Light (in Oakland) has three paid positions available for singers to form a professional five-voice vocal ensemble (SSATB) at the Cathedral. We are still searching for a soprano, tenor and bass.

The Schola Cantorum will provide music at the Stational Mass on Sundays at 10am and other Holy Days. In addition to solo opportunities and for the ensemble to function as its own music ensemble, the Schola Cantorum will also serve as section leaders to the Cathedral Choir.

The Cathedral is conveniently located close to 19th St Bart, in the Uptown District of Oakland by Lake Merritt, at 2121 Harrison Street. As a performance space it is a sought after venue for vocal ensembles, as it has received rave reviews for its acoustics (New York Times).

      Compensation: $75/call

Requirements: Please prepare to sing William Byrd's "Mass in 4 Voices:
Agnus Dei (score: http://www1.cpdl.org/wiki/images/sheet/byrd-agn.pdf) in your voice part alone in original key. You will also be asked to sing a chorale (in your own part) or song of your choice, either sacred or secular. You are welcome to sing acapella or accompaniment will be provided if your piece requires it. There will also be some sight-reading in neum/chant notation and modern notation. Please bring two copies of the piece you will be singing, as well as a copy of your resumé.

Some things that will be listened for (not in any particular order) include:
      - clarity of voice
      - perfect intonation
      - absence of diphthongs
      - diction
      - enunciation and rhetoric
      - vocal range
      - understanding style of 16th century choral music, Baroque,
      19th century through modern day.

Auditions: Auditions are scheduled for Saturday 2/11/12 and Sunday 2/12/12. Please sign up for a time slot at http://www.eventbrite.com/event/2826974557. If you are unable to make any of the dates/times, please email Rudy De Vos at rdevos@....
