AVE (Artists' Vocal Ensemble) opens its 2007-08 season with "Beauty
Awakens," a concert of a cappella music by Palestrina and di Lasso,
complemented by recitations of text by Dante. Performances take place
September 7TH, 8pm at St. Ignatius Church in San Francisco, September
8TH, 8pm at St. Mark's church in Berkeley and September 9TH, 5:30pm at
Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church in Lafayette. "Beauty Awakens"
is a benefit for the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA), which
works to bring community-based HIV prevention and care to parts of Africa.

Artistic Director Jonathan Dimmock notes, "The poet Dante wrote,
`Beauty awakens the soul to act.' It is our hope that this glorious
and serene music will serve to inspire the audience to contemplation
and to action for this good cause." The concert, modeled on music
from the Sistine Chapel, will include the famed Palestrina "Pope
Marcellus Mass" along with several motets by 16th century master
Orlando di Lasso. Stephen Myers will recite texts from Dante's Divine
      Comedy.

Tickets: $25, $10 for Students/Seniors at the door or online at
