Below is a trip summary of the group Catacoustic Groove from Arizona that
recently toured the bay area. Thanks to everyone who helped them out --
they felt very welcome and the venues compilation got a good christening.

      >Brief summary (too much for really detailed
      >account):
      >
      >We had a GREAT TIME in Bay Area!
      >
      >Our director got off work around 10:00 Friday night,
      >and we headed in to Palo Alto anyway, even though
      >we only got there around 11:00. Still a fair number
      >of folks stopped to listen, and one guy said if we were
      >going to be around for a while he would like to hire us.
      >Nice gesture even though we had to decline.
      >
      >Saturday on Fisherman's Wharf was WONDERFUL! Lots
      >of leisurely people wandering around, just waiting to
      >be entertained, and they settled down to enjoy our
      >show, and their obvious enjoyment was a real booster
      >to our own morale, singing in the BIG CITY for the
      >very first time away from home. Ghirardelli Square,
      >Pier 39, and The Cannery were most hospitable and I
      >strongly recommend them to any other visiting groups.
      >Remember, though: BOOK YOUR TIME/PLACE WEEKS AHEAD!!!
      >We can attest to the fact that these places DESERVE
      >their reputation as prime performance venues!
      >
      >Sunday we headed down to Santa Cruz Wharf, which was abuzz
      >with an Arts Festival. Only had a few minutes to sing, but
      >definitely a lovely place full of happy folks. Wound
      >up the afternoon at Monterey Bay Arts and Crafts Faire
      >run by Pacific Repertory Theater, which was again
      >warm and encouraging. As before we found our way was
      >made smooth by having contacted organizers weeks beforehand,
      >so that there was time to introduce our group to the
      >organizers, send copies of the CD when necessary, and
      >figure out performance times and places.
      >
      >In all of this, the INTERNET was most valuable. CASA
      >contacts, esp. Michael Olivier and his group, provided
      >wonderful information on small places that otherwise an
      >out-of-state group would never have found. Many venues,
      >fairs, events, towns, have good web pages listing what
      >is going on and opportunities for performers.
      >
      >SO to other groups coming to Bay Area, start with
      >ba-acappella and don't be afraid to go wherever it leads you!
      >
      >Bruce Bayly / Catacoustic Groove
