Stopped by a Cop for being an A Cappella Singer!
- This one falls into the sometimes, good things happen to good people
I was driving my car in Redwood City, CA, and noticed the motorcycle
cop following me. I checked my speed, and continued on. After two
blocks, I noticed his red and blue lights were flashing, so I pulled
over, thinking What did I do!? I lowered my window.
He stopped the bike beside me, and I asked, Is there something wrong?
He looked sternly at me and said, Do you sing a cappella? I was
floored, and, momentarily, speechless. I decided that I could be a
martyr for the art-form, so I answered Yes, I do!
He continued, I noticed your license plate frame, saying Peninsula
Harmony Chorus Building Harmony through Harmony, and thought you
might be a singer. Then I noticed your license itself, CMPEAUZ, and
knew that I had to stop and talk to you. You see, my son is very much
into a cappella and is graduating from high-school next year. Hes been
singing in a quartet since jr. high, and took me to the Harmony Sweeps
this year What a show! Im buying tickets every year from now on! -
Well, he wants to continue singing a cappella, and is looking for a
chorus to sing with after high school.
I assured him that his son would be more than welcome to come and
check us out, and gave him my Chorus business card. I also suggested
that dad come along with his son for the evening.
He smiled, fired up his bike, said Well, that might happen. Thanks for
the invite. and took off down the road.
As my heart-rate returned to normal, I thought, "This is one for the
history books!" =8-)
