The Cantabile Choral Guild announces auditions for new members!

Cantabile Choral Guild holds annual auditions for new members of Cantabile
Chorale before each concert season. We are also happy to hear singers
      periodically throughout the season.

      Auditions for New Singers

Monday December 6, First Presbyterian, Palo Alto 7:00-10:00
Tuesday December 21, All Souls Episcopal, Berkeley 7:00-10:00

Our procedure is simple. You are asked to sing a prepared piece--it can be
any type of song. Artistic Director, Sanford Dole will also ask you to do
      some
vocalizing and sight-reading. The audition lasts 10-12 minutes. An
accompanist will be provided. You will be notified of the audition result
via email and phone. We look forward to hearing you!

For further information and to schedule an audition time, contact Sonja
Wohlgemuth at (650) 424-1410 or sonja@.... When emailing, please
      include
your contact information, voice part, and previous choral music experience.

      2004-2005 Season

      December (tickets on sale now!)
      10, 11, & 12 Seasons of Christmas
A musical journey from Advent, Christmas and Epiphany, thematically
connected by text. Early Renaissance motets by Josquin, Handl and the
Spaniard composers, Victoria and Guerrero side-by-side with more recent
compositions by Howells, Willan and Dole. This gorgeous program is sure to
      make your Christmas season merry!

      March
      11, 12, & 13 Songs of Love and Liturgy
Three masters from distinctly different eras. Palestrina’s book of motets on
texts from the Song of Songs, a very satisfying taste of this Italian master
’s oeuvre. Introducing Einojuhani Rautavaara, the Finnish composer of
Vigilia, a choral cannon and exquisite setting of the Russian orthodox
vespers liturgy. The first in the Finnish language and a tour-de-force.
Concluding the program, Bach’s Lobet den Herrn.

      June
      4, & 5 Winds of Time
An exciting collection of larger works for brass, keyboard and chorus.
Joined by players from California Symphony, the first half of the evening
presents the three-choir Magnificat by Gabrieli, a rousing composition,
complemented by a reprise of a work we originally commissioned, the Ludtke
Mass. To conclude the evening, the enchanting Seven Ghosts, by Libby Larsen.
A setting of letters written by and to famous historical figures. A
fascinating look into the lives of notable figures, such as George
Washington, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Charles Lindberg and Louis Armstrong.

      Recent Reviews

Five reviews of the Guild Chorus’s collaboration with the California
Symphony as they performed Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and a new work by
      composer Kevin Beavers.

Cal Symph scores a 10 with Beethoven’s Ninth
The California Symphony doesn’t have its own chorus, but Jekowsky recruited
one of the Bay Area’s best for these performances. Under the direction of
Sanford Dole, the Baroque Choral Guild contributed thrillingly large,
focused sound in the finale’s “Ode to Joy.”
      —Georgia Rowe, Contra Costa Times

Choral performance a real ode to joy
The 25-year-old Baroque Choral Guild, currently under the direction of
Sanford Dole, is another outstanding chorus on the Peninsula. I don’t think
that its support in Beaver’s composition and the Beethoven Ninth could be
      done better by anyone, anywhere.
—Keith Kreitman, San Mateo County Times

Composing From the Inside, Conducting From the Outside
Dole’s Baroque Choral Guild sang like blazes, with ample power, clear,
unstrained sopranos at the top. If the 20 or 30 men had an open sound, not
as focused and muscular as could be wished for, they carried their part with
the thrust the Ode to Joy must have. The chorus sang with belief.
—Robert Commanday, San Francisco Classical Voice

      Earnest ‘Songs’ lacks buoyancy
The Baroque Choral Guild, led by Sanford Dole, made a good showing in the
finale, especially in the stirring final pages
      —Joshua Kosman, San Francisco Chronicle

A New Symphonic Messsage, With Poland-USA Link
Sanford Dole has shaped his Baroque Choral Guild singers, over 50 strong,
into one of the Bay Area’s elite ensembles.
