Hi all! Our next two gigs are coming right up.

your reservations now for Downtown Restaurant.
It's a beautiful restaurant with fabulous food.
The music will be pretty good, too. :) If you
want to learn something about a cappella music
and hear a bunch of great groups, come to the
West Coast A Cappella Summit next weekend.
      (Also, more info below.)

And, as always, thank you for
      your continuing support!

Clockwork is performing for the daytime showcase
      AND
leading two classes during the day.

      Basic Arranging
Stephen will lead a general skills workshop for vocal arrangers, but
also applicable for any grouping of single-line instruments (horns,
strings, etc.). He will be discussing the various decisions an
arranger has to make and look at some of the techniques an arranger
can use to come up with something new from an existing song. He will
also look at what it takes to accurately transcribe a song from an
audio recording, since this is usually the first step in coming up
with a new arrangement. This portion of the session will include
recognizing chord types and their functions, accurately transcribing
melodies, when to be precise and when to simplify, and other tips to
get musical ideas down on paper.

      The Neal Cruz Workshop
Neal was a friend of ours who died in a hang-gliding accident last
June. This is our tribute to his memory.

Members of Clockwork and The Pacific Mozart Ensemble (PME)
established the Neal Cruz Arranging Workshop and the Neal Cruz Fund
in 2004 to honor the memory of Neal Cruz, a Bay Area singer and
arranger with groups including PME, Quintessence, Artists in
Resonance at UC Berkeley, and the Cal Jazz Choir.

This workshop will focus on intensive examination and performance of
a handful of submitted arrangements. Professional musicians from Bay
Area a cappella groups, including the Pacific Mozart Ensemble and
Clockwork, will perform the arrangements, and our clinician, Stephen
Saxon, will suggest improvements. Then the singers will demonstrate
the updates on-the-fly, by performing the revised arrangement.

A celebration of all things a cappella, the West Coast A Cappella
Summit is an opportunity for singers of all levels, from amateur to
professional, to gather together and do what they do best: sing! With
a philosophy that embraces all styles of music without instruments,
the Summit is a forum for everyone to enjoy the only
      prerequisite is
      a love of singing harmony.

Tickets available from the Marin Center box office.
