      PACIFIC MOZART ENSEMBLE

      Presents its Annual

A Cappella Jazz & Pop Concert

June 5, 2004 at The Crowden School, Berkeley

June 11, 2004 at The Green Room, San Francisco

June 13, 2004 at the Berkeley City Club, Berkeley

The Pacific Mozart Ensemble presents its popular annual A
Cappella Jazz & Pop Concert on Saturday, June 5 at 7:30 pm
at The Crowden School, 1475 Rose Street in Berkeley; Friday,
June 11 at 7:30 pm in The Green Room of the Veterans War
Memorial Building, 401 Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco; and
Sunday, June 13 at 5 pm at the Berkeley City Club, 2315
      Durant Ave in Berkeley.

PME will offer a wide mix of vocal jazz, pop and doo-wop,
featuring small groups performing sophisticated a cappella
      arrangements.

Tickets are $20 general admission and $15 for students and
seniors and are available by phone at 415/705-0848 or online
      at: www.pacificmozart.org.

In describing the Jazz & Pop Concert, PME’s Music Director,
Richard Grant remarked: “PME provides a unique experience
for singers from both extremes of the musical spectrum. At
the outset the classically trained singers were lured into
the fun of singing jazz, but now professional jazz and pop
musicians who are seeking a musical home are joining PME to
expand their horizons into classical literature. This bi-
directional crossover has allowed musicians different genres
to have their artistry informed by exposure to the others.
All of the music performed by PME benefits from the symbiosis.

“The wide range of abilities we have developed has allowed us
to participate in interesting collaborations, such as two
invitations from Dave Brubeck to perform his oratorio The
Gates of Justice, most recently as part of The Brubeck
Festival 2004 in April; being selected by Kent Nagano to
perform Leonard Bernstein’s Mass with the Deutsches Symphonie
Orchester Berlin in the Fall of 2003 for a new recording, and
to perform such challenging classical works as Ligeti’s Lux
      Aeterna with the Berkeley Symphony.

“Individual members are self-motivated to create new
arrangements, put together small groups, and audition for our
annual jazz and pop concerts. Once the best are chosen, I add
a few numbers for the whole chorus, but on the whole the
concert is created by the members without any interference
      from the Director.” stated Grant.
