SoVoSo Headlines Central Coast A Cappella Music Festival:
Acappellafest at First Congregational Church on March 6, 1999

The best bargain all year long for those who love vocal music is the
second annual Santa Cruz Acappellafest on March 6 at the First
Congregational Church. For as much as it would cost to see the
headliners alone, fans can enjoy a full day of seminars and two
concerts with seven top quality groups. The day conference begins at
9:00a.m. and the evening concert featuring SoVoSo, Mount Madonna
Choir and Stanford's Mixed Company begins at 7:00p.m.

Some of the most awesome vocal harmonies in the world today are coming from
the bay area world jazz ensemble SoVoSo, the headliners of the
Acappellafest evening concert. Many of the group's members worked together
in Bobby McFerrin's improvisational Voicestra. SoVoSo's two recordings are
winning awards nationally. Fans of Mount Madonna Choir's eclectic
repertoire of classical, Celtic and African music should not miss this
concert - their only spring concert in the county. The third group of the
evening will be award winning Stanford ensemble, Mixed Company, which give
pop hits of the '80s and '90s their distinctive a cappella treatment.

The day conference will be filled with workshops, seminars, sing-a-longs
and the lunchtime concert. Singers and fans alike will find workshops and
seminars such as rounds singing, on-line resources for a cappella music and
vocal percussion with the Housejack's Wes Carroll to fill their schedules.
The lunchtime concert will feature local and regional high school and
      professional ensembles.

The Acappellafest is co-sponsored by SCATS (Santa Cruz Acappellafest and
Talent Showcase) and CASA (Contemporary A cappella Society). In addition,
this project is supported by a grant from the Cultural Council of Santa
      Cruz County.

Both the day conference and the evening concert will be held at the First
Congregational Church, 900 High Street in Santa Cruz, California. The
daytime workshops begin at 9:00a.m. Evening concert doors open at
6:30p.m. and the concert begins at 7:00p.m. Acappellafest day conference
tickets are $11.00 at the door and $10.00 in advance. The evening concert
tickets are $16.00 at the door and $15.00 in advance. Combination tickets
for both parts of the Acappellafest are $21.00 at the door and $20.00 in
advance. Tickets are available at Gateway Book and Gift, 1018 Pacific
      Ave., Santa Cruz, (831)429-9600.
