Now in its tenth year, Cantabile Children's Chorus brings the joys of choral
music performance and education to more than 80 dedicated singers age six
and older. Founded in 1994 by Artistic Director, Signe Boyer, Cantabile is a
member of the Foothills College Performing Arts Alliance and the Baroque
Choral Guild, which sponsors Cantabile as part of its mission to bring the
finest in choral music to the San Francisco Bay area. Cantabile takes pride
in providing a quality choral music experience. Ms. Boyer has designed the
program with an emphasis on music theory, vocal training, combined choral
and instrumental performance and a wide variety of traditional, modern, and
      commissioned music.
This summer, Cantabile's Chamber Choir participated in its third European
performance tour traveling to Hungary and Austria where they were able to
workshop and perform with the Vienna Boys Choir. Photos of the tour are
available to all interested viewers in the photo section of this website. In
2000, the Choir took part in the Tuscany International Children's Choir
Festival in Florence and performed throughout England in the summer of 1998.
In 2002-2003 Cantabile appeared with the Mission Chamber Orchestra and the
San Jose Symphonic Choir in a premiere of Craig Bohmler's Sisters. Previous
premieres have included Henry Mollicone's A Rat's Tale with El Camino Youth
Symphony, Sondra Clark's Requiem for Lost Children with the San Jose
Symphonic Choir, Missa Gaia by Libby Larsen, with Schola Cantorum; and Miss
Rumphius, by Victoria Ebel-Sabo, with the Peninsula Women's Chorus.
Other Cantabile performances include the Monteverdi Vespers and Bach's St.
Matthew Passion with the Baroque Choral Guild; and Carl Orff's Carmina
Burana and Alva Henderson's The Ancient Ones. Cantabile has also sung with
the San Jose Symphony in their Christmas Celebration Concert, performed an
adaptation of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta Pirates of Penzance, and
performed for the San Jose Tech Museum's groundbreaking dinner at the
      Fairmont Hotel.
In addition to presenting annual Winter and Spring concerts, the chorus
regularly sings as part of the Stanford Hospital Bing Concert series and
performs throughout the community. Cantabile also hosts a one-week Summer
Music Day Camp for singers aged 6 to 10, in August of each year.
