The music is starting to sound really good at our rehearsals, and our firstconcert is at 4pm this Sunday at San Francisco's First Unitarian Church (Franklin at Geary), with Slavyanka (men and women), Kitka, Kostroma, and two outstanding Russian Orthodox Church Choirs.
Out of town singers from the Yale Russian Chorus Alumni, New York Metropolitan Opera, and way points will start arriving next week. There will be free workshops and round table discussions of Russian Choral music Thursday evening August 7 at San Francisco's First Unitarian Church (Franklin at Geary).
If you love Russian bass, tenor, and women's solo voices, the 8pm Friday night August 8 concert at St Mark's Church in Berkeley (Bancroft at Ellsworth) will feature Metropolitan Opera award-winning counter-tenor Andre Nemzer and Bolshoi Theater contra-bass Mikhail Svetlov perform selected arias and songs that will showcase the enormous vocal range that characterizes Russian solo music, as well as duets with sopranos Olga France and Elena Gurevich, and mezzo-soprano Olga Bykhovsky.
And for fans of Men's Russian Chorus music, the concert Saturdayevening August 9 at San Francisco's First Unitarian Church (Franklin at Geary) is one you won't want to miss. Yale Russian Chorus Alumni join the Slavyanka Men's Russian Chorus for an exciting program of folk and sacred, ancient and modern pieces sung by over fifty men's voices.
Finally, on Sunday at 4pm in Berkeley's First Congregational Church (Channing way at Durant), the Festival's concluding concert will feature a massed Festival choir of over 100 voices plus selected soloists and groups.
