4872Bay Choral Guild Presents Poet's Corner, in Campbell, SF, and Palo Alto
- May 23, 2014Bay Choral Guild Presents “Poet’s Corner” – June 6, 7, 8, 2014
Bay Choral Guild’s “Poet’s Corner” concert explores what happens when thoughtful, creative and accomplished composers combine their genius with wonderful poetry. Beautifully expressive a-cappella settings of poems by e. e. cummings, Sara Teasdale, William Shakespeare, Edna St. Vincent Millay and William Blake will be presented in the music of the Swedish composer, Nils Lindberg, and Americans, Eric Whitacre, Frank Ticheli, Stacy Garrop, Elliot Z. Levine and Nancy Wertsch.
The Bay Area will be represented by Michael Kaulkin in his setting of Emily Dickinson’s “Are Friends Delight or Pain?” and Sanford Dole’s “Invitation to a Voyage”, a wonderful setting of Charles Baudelaire’s evocative poetry.
The combination of the poetry and the music in each of these works transcends the poetry by itself or the music by itself. They are by turns emotional, lyrical, intense, dramatic, charming, funny, and all reach out and grab you in a different way. And they are all wonderful to sing! So put June 6, 7 or 8 on your calendar!
And check out our BCG website concerts page and blog for lots more information!
