      I agree with William Miller and would also add that in pic DSC2277 I noted a characteristic of R. periclymenoides, I noted the recurved petal lobes and that the leaves are just emerging as the plant comes into full flower.

      This azalea has been on our property for years. We live in Mount Airy, NC,
      USA, coldness zone 7. We have tons of June blooming wild azaleas and also
      large leaf rhododendrons but this is the only April blooming plant. Also the
      blooms are different from the others and the color is much deeper. The bloom
      is more "spidery". I would like to know the scientific name. Thank you for
      responding.
