    Here are three photos of the typical flower bud on my early form of R. arborescens. it is about as smooth as a bud and stem can get.

    Is there a native azalea species with a smooth, hairless seed pod? perhaps R. vaseyi.

    I think it is canadense that has a paper, not woody seed pod, or possibly albiflorum.
