      The nominations for the 46th Annual Grammy Awards were
      announced this morning and we are delighted to
      announce that ECM Records was honored with 8
      nominations illustrating the extraordinary breadth of
      music recorded by the label with jazz, traditional
      classical, world music and contemporary classical
      composition all represented.

      Founded in 1969 by Manfred Eicher, ECM is now
      approaching 35 years of independent music production.
      It is indeed fitting that in addition to the
      recognition given to the 7 individual recordings
      listed below, Manfred Eicher - who personally produces
      most of the recordings for the label - is again
      nominated in the field of Best Classical Producer.
      This is Eicher's fifth nomination in the category - he
      was the winner in 2002.

      Category 48 - Best Jazz Instrumental Solo
      Butch & Butch
      Keith Jarrett, soloist
      Track from: Up For It (Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock &
      Jack DeJohnette)
      Keith Jarrett has been nominated numerous times for
      his ECM recordings.

      Category 49 - Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual
      or Group
      Extended Play, Live At Birdland
      Dave Holland Quintet
      This is Dave Holland's fifth Grammy nomination as a
      leader. The previous three quintet albums were each
      nominated in this category and Dave's Big Band album
      "What Goes Around" won the Best Large Jazz Ensemble
      Album award in February 2003.

      Category 50 - Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album
      Looking For America
      The Carla Bley Big Band
      "Carla Bley's Big Band Theory" was nominated for this
      award in 1994/95.

      Category 70 - Best Traditional World Music Album
      The Rain
      Ghazal
      This is the first Grammy nomination for the great
      Indian/Iranian Ensemble.

      Category 92 - Producer Of The Year, Classical
      Manfred Eicher
      Kurt�g: Signs, Games And Messages; H�lderlin-Ges�nge,
      Lauds And Lamentations (music by Elliott Carterand
      IsangYun)
      Ricercar (Bach/Webern) (Christoph Poppen and the
      Hilliard Ensemble)
      Silvestrov: Metamusik; Postludium (Alexei Lubimov,
      piano soloist)
      Zehetmair Quartet Plays Robert Schumann (Zehetmair
      String Qt.)
      Winner of the 2002 Classical Producer of the Year
      award, this is Manfred Eicher's fifth nomination in
      this category.



      Category 98 - Best Instrumental Soloist Performance
      (without Orchestra)
      Bach: Goldberg Variations
      Andr�s Schiff, piano
      Schiff is a veteran Grammy nominee - however this is
      first since he began recording exclusively for ECM in
      1999.

      Category 100 - Best Small Ensemble Performance (with
      or without Conductor)
      Goebbels: Eislermaterial
      Josef Bierbichler, voice; Ensemble Modern
      Heiner Goebbels' previous ECM release, "Surrogate
      Cities", was nominated for the 2001 Classical
      Contemporary Composition Award.

      Category 102 - Best Classical Contemporary Composition
      Kurt�g: Signs, Games And Messages
      Gy�rgy Kurt�g (Orlando Trio)
      Track from: Kurt�g: Signs, Games And Messages;
      H�lderin-Ges�nge, Etc.
      This is the first Grammy nomination for the great
      Hungarian composer, Gy�rgy Kurt�g.
