Songs about snakes, etc.
- Got my latest Wayside pile today. Alamaailman Vasarat/Tuomari Nurmio's
collaboration, Kinaporin Kalifaatti, sounds like the Vasarats recruited no one
less than Jay Ward's creation Boris Badenov to growl along with them. Remember
how you felt when you bought TD's Cyclone and all the sudden there was this
guy on there singing with the band? And he wasn't that great a singer, but you
sorta got used to it after a while? And maybe now you pretty much like it,
or maybe now you only play side Two, where the guy is not? Well, you don't get
a side two here. I think this was a fine experiment, and I'm happy with the
results -- Nurmio is no worse than many other rock singers I could name, in
spite of that unmistakably Pottsylvanian timbre, and his sound certainly fits
in with the overall AV ethos -- but I sure don't recommend that anyone new
to Vasarat start with this one. Haven't tried the DVD yet. On the whole, DVDs
are not that big a draw to me.
And the titles on the Klaus Schulze Cyborg CDs halfway correspond to the
titles on the Brain LPs: Conphara and Neuronengesang still identify the same
pieces of music, but the works called Synphara and Chromengel are switched. Not
that it really matters; as well call them "Walking the Cat" or "Celestial
Shoestring Abomination," the music remains the same...
Those saltshaker guys from Skaro, get a few pangalactic gargleblasters in
them and they're not so bad. Except for the singing, of course.
