      Hi John,

The book mentions that 41072 was cut up but not 41073.  The notes related to 41073 imply it may have had met the same fate as 41072 but doesn't explicitly say so.  I made the same interpretation but was wondering if someone actually had more information.

      Hi Rod,

Ken McCarthy's "Gazetteer of Industrial Steam Locomotives-Illawarra District" has Baldwin builders numbers 41072 and 41073 as both at Kiama, reported out of service in August 1938 and then cut up at the Pikes Hill Quarry in ARHS Bulletin #11 9/1938 p22.
Ken's book has a builder's photo of 41072 that lists Puffing Billy as the source of the photo.

The ex-Burrinjuck Krauss "Robin" (BN 5870 of 1908) was rumoured to have been buried at the quarry rather than cut up. A few years ago the local university had a go at trying to find it with ground-penetrating radar when one on the more likely disposal sites was cleared. The tests were unsuccessful, so it is perhaps probable that "Robin" was cut up at the same time as the Baldwins or later during a wartime scrap drive.
      I hope that this helps,
