Prospect teen charged with attempted murder after axe attackDEVAAN INGRAHAMPolice tape surrounds 250 Prospect Bay Rd. after a woman was attacked there with an axe.A 15-year-old Prospect Bay girl has been charged with attempted murder related to a bloody assault on an older woman.Police say the teen was arrested after Wednesday night’s attack on a 52-year-old woman at the home on Prospect Bay Road where they both live.“For such a young (person) to be involved in such a violent crime is a serious matter that she will have to answer to,” said Cpl. Scott MacRae of the RCMP.
Police said the victim was rushed to hospital after 9 p.m. Wednesday, but she recovered and was released Thursday afternoon.“When we arrived it was quite a scene,” said MacRae. “There was a lot of blood due to a being attacked with an axe several times.”MacRae said two 15-year-old girls were arrested in a car on Mumford Road about an hour after the attack.The girl charged with attempted murder also faces counts of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, theft of a vehicle over $5,000 and eight breaches of court orders.The other teen is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and 14 breaches of court orders.There was always “a lot of fighting” going on at the Prospect Bay Road home, according to a neighbour.“It’s just been a bad situation for a few years now,” she said.The neighbour, who asked not to be identified, said the 15-year-old who lives there has had a “hard life” and seemed very unhappy.“She’s been crying out for help for a long time,” the neighbour said.Both girls were expected in youth court on Friday.
