Millions of people in the UK are so badly affected by the cuts in services and benefits which many of us rely on, the pay freeze and attacks on pensions in the public sector (pay more for longer and receive less, encouraging private sector companies like Tesco to also attack pension rights), that they cannot afford to wait for another general election, which the Con-Dem (Tory/Lib Dem coalition) government plans to hold in 2015.
At last year's Trades Union Congress (TUC), a motion to consider the practicalities of organising a general strike was overwhelmingly passed. The TUC is finally organising a meeting of unions involved in disputes to coordinate action.
However, we shouldn't wait for union leaders to act. A call has been put out by various groups, including Anonymous which has over 1 million supporters on Facebook, for a global general strike (from work, college school, shopping and banks) on Wednesday 1 May. The Revolutionary Platform Network has already put out the call too, and I have made a music video promoting this call at tinyurl.com/genstrikevid. Visit www.facebook.com/maydaygeneralstrike.
Bringing down the Con-Dem coalition government is not a one-day task of course. It will take sustained action from below and leadership from above. Join the group www.facebook.com/groups/BringDownCameron.

The above is the modified section of the new version of newsletter 4 (edition 4c) of Revolutionary Platform News, which I'm producing to mobilise for Wednesday in conjunction with my song/music video (an adaptation of the first song in "Billy Elliot", the musical, set in the miners' strike – The Stars Look Down.
