[FILM] The History and Success of "Hero"
- The Chinese movie Hero finally made its way to the US 2 years after
its debut in the Asian market.
After bringing in over $100 million in Asia, the film premiered at
the top of the heap here with a $17.8 million gross in North America
at over 2000 locations.
The majority of moviegoers at its opening weekend were 18-29 year
old males according to exit polls. This is the second martial arts
movie that Miramax has distributed (Iron Monkey was the first) and
the leading US premiere for an Asian live action production (Nielsen

$9.6 million opening weekend.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the leading Asian movie box office
holder with $128 million total but it did not break more than $10
million for a 3-day run in its 8 months in movie theaters.
