      ====================

      Goro Suzuki, known to millions of fans as Jack Soo, was born in
      California in 1917. He began his acting career in the 1960s with
      appearances in the movie musicals The Flower Drum Song and
      Thoroughly Modern Millie. Though best known as the sleep-deprived
      Detective Nick Yemana on Barney Miller, he also guest-starred on
      television favorites Hawaii Five-O, M*A*S*H and Ironside. While
      working on Barney Miller, Soo was stricken with cancer. He left the
      show in 1978 and died soon after in 1979 at the age of 62. The
      tribute episode of Barney Miller, "Jack Soo, a Retrospective,"
      remains a favorite among his fans.
