The Center for Learning Resources (CLR) is a non-profit organization
based in Pune established to promote quality in the care and
education of disadvantaged children.
Established in 1984, CLR has been providing technical support to
government agencies and NGOs running pre-primary centers, elementary
schools and non-formal education programs for out-of-school and
working children. CLR also works towards raising public awareness
about the educational needs of disadvantaged children and their right
to a good education.
Zakiya Kurrien has her Masters in Education from Smith College, MA
and has been professionally involved in the field of education for
over 30 years. She has authored books, designed training packages and
instructional materials for early childhood, primary and non-formal
education that has been translated into several languages. Ms.
Kurrien has served on various state and national committees on
John Kurrien has done his PhD in Education from the University of
Wisconsin, Madison. He has been involved in various aspects of
education since his return to India in 1976. Dr. Kurrien has written
extensively on elementary education and the education of girls in
India as well as served on several national and state committees.
Dr. John and Zakiya Kurrien are co-founders of CLR and will be
sharing their experiences on their work in early childhood care, as
well as primary and middle school education. For more information on
