Group Description

The Australian Society for Ancient Numismatics.

For those in/near Sydney who have an interest in Ancient Greek and Roman
Coins, as well as coins from other parts of the ancient world, up to c.1453 AD.

This is (necessarily) a members-only group, populated mostly by invitation.

ASAN is a group of like-minded people who each have a fascination, an interest,
or some association with the study, and/or collecting of ancient numismatic items.

Special mention should also be made of the founders of this group, back in 1988,
David Worland, Jim Noble, Colin Pitchfork and the late Jon Hosking.

Members are welcomed to meet at 6pm on the Fourth (4th) Monday of the month
(usually) at the premises of Noble Numismatics, 169 Macquarie St, Sydney NSW
2000. Ph: (02) 9223 4578. (nb: occasionally there may be a change of venue/time
for special events, eg: a visit to ACANS*, or sometimes a change of date due to
clashes with public holidays or some other matter).

There are no fees or office bearers, just turn up and participate. Meetings generally
begin with a "news" and current events discussion, followed by a version of "show
and tell", where members bring along their own items (recent purchases, current
interests, study items, or anything related to ancient numismatics really), offer a
short talk, and perhaps discuss them with the group.
Afterwards members retire to a nearby venue of choice for a pleasant post-meeting
dinner (and drinks, for those who are so inclined).

ASAN supports ACANS, The Australian Centre for Ancient Numismatic Studies at
Macquarie University (established in 1999 following a bequest from ASAN member
Dr W.L. "Bill" Gale and Mrs J. Gale).
