This was listed in Riverdeep Newsletter (permission granted to post)

Not only will these ten teaching suggestions help energize
you for the New Year, they will also help to keep you focused and
organized. Suggestions from Barbara Gruber
Those of you having trouble with behavior/classroom management might
want to check the professional development class by Barbara Gruber
(for K-6 teachers).
Maximize Learning with Positive Behavior Strategies
"Children learn more in well-managed classrooms. This course teaches
you how to maximize learning time. Gain specific strategies to help
children listen and follow directions. Learn how to create a positive
learning environment that fosters independence and responsibility.
Gain step-by-step positive behavior strategies that can help children
be cooperative, enthusiastic learners."
See the Sample Lesson and Course Outline.
I imagine the suggestions given will also work for middle school kids.
In most states (if not all) you need to take professional development
classes to re-certify. This one is only $99.....and for only $62 per
credit hour, you can earn up to three graduate credits (that's pretty
cheap for grad credit). Before you sign up for grad credit, make sure
University of the Pacific, Center for Professional and Continuing
Education is approved in your state. Check with your county education
office and if they don't know, write to the state department of
education, department of certification.
Best wishes for 2006,
