I am doing a self protrait project right now with my kindergarten kids.
First I start out showing them repo's of Andy Warhol's Famous People
prints. As well as the one of him with his hair all wacky. I tell the
kids we are going to make our own Silly Self Portraits. Covering all
the basics such as what a print is and what a self portrait is. Then at
the end of class I take a digital photo of every kid making a funny
face (you'd be suprised how hard it is to make a kindergarten kid make
a silly face). I open them in picture viewer and modify the balance.
Make the contrast 100 and the brightness around 80-90 depending on
color of skin. This makes a ghost image. Print it in black and white.
During the next class again looking at Warhol prints we talk about
coloring them in. Using certain colors to express our feelings. We
aren't finished with this yet, but I think it will turn out really well.
Since you are planning on making these into prints the Warhol idea ties
in even better.
